You can remain competative. Since Anet is following Magic's model you do not have to have the previous editions to stay competative. It has been said over and over.

As a magic player myself I know this as truth. No magic player ever stays in the game for ever single edition. I play for 1-2 core sets then I quit for about a year or so. I miss out on 1-2 core sets but when I come back I am still competative because how everything is set up and game balance.

in the UK it's only $30 dollars a copy if you buy online, works out at $5 a month, which is like one meal at mac donald's. most MMO's are $12-15 dollars per month.

No, what I meant was I didn't air any opionion about whether I think the sum is too much or not, as you implied in your comment. I am not taking any sides, just saying the sum is considerable to the players or whoever is paying for their game.

Curious question: Has the price of GW went down since release where you live? Because it hasn't over here in Sweden, at least not where I live.

That's a lot cheaper than over the counter in Sweden then. I can't imagine the postal fee for the box can be too much either between European countries. So that is a far better alternative then, thanks for the info.

Uhm, right... but they also have a boss named 'Priest of Dagnar'. Maybe the Stone Summit venerate the guy as a god, or he's named after a god? Or the 'Priest of Dagnar' boss is just a madman.

Balthazar's half-brother is mentioned in the text of some of the FoW quests. He's the leader of the Shadow Army.

Now maybe its just me, but Anet has said that Factions can be played as a seperate game (i.e. you dont need to own the first game). The price will also most likely be comparable to the orinigal. So wouldn't it make sense for there to be 4 more character slots? I mean, the folks who just buy chapter 2 are getting a whole game, and thus 4 slots would make sense, plus that would make the number of characters = number of classes, which would stop alot of complaining. Does this make sense to anyone other than me, or have I missed something?

Gaile has said that the magazine material is more than a month old and they havent decided yet how many NEW slots will be in the chapter 2 when added to chapter 1.

assume that if you just buy chapter 2 you will get the same total number of slots since they said the original 6 *CORE* professions would be included with any future chapters (3/4/5/x)

if you get 5 slots total when adding chapter 2 figure chapter 2 alone will have either 5 slots also or at least 4 same as the original game.

they are not about to anger people over such a small item.

Default Hording cash for the second chapter...

I was browsing around looking at all the people whineing about saving money for the second chapter and this seemed starnge to me because I dont understand why its soo important... I mean everyones going to have to start from the beginning so there wont be any runs to special places or anyone with the uber weapons so what exactly are you gunna spend your millions on? The Catha starter amour? lol Im sure a few plat here and there is good but stressing over not being able to have more than 1mill is a little over the top. I was just wondering what you lot thought about this "Cash problem"

I still think it will add 4 slots (for a total of 8), its the only thing that makes sense in my mind. Theyve said they have an affinity for the number 8, so eight slots would make sense. Eight slots, eight classes, same number of slots for the second game as for the first. Many less people fussing about not having enough spaces. I dont think they would make it 4 slots for those who just have chapter 2, but then shortchange the returning players by only adding two slots (or whatever). That just doesnt make sense. Also, it doesnt make sense to say its a standalone game, but oh, new players (Factions only owners), you only get two slots, even though there are eight classes. See what I'm saying? Now, there might be MORE than eight slots, but i simply cannot believe that Anet will stick us with less than eight (for those that have both). They love us too much

QUOTE=Chef Boyardeath] even though they label GW as a rpg, every other article I read about it seemed to focus on the pvp side of it, with the rpg part of the game there for the people who want it. It didn't seem like think they ever intended people to play the game for the rpg aspect of the game only. more of a mixed blend or all out pvp (atleast thats what all the articles/previews for the game seemed to tell me).
Anyway, I probably just repeated everything you said again, but I think i might have came off as an ass in the other post. O_o[/QUOTE]

Ummm... yeah... Chef you might have come off as an ass, however, I always take posts with a pinch of salt, makes it taste so much better going down then just a grain. I would like a nice blend of PvP and RP and that it what initially attracted my to GW but I don't like the PVP in GW for reasons that don't need restating.

Ok... since no one else is really answering the question why people are upset about spending around $50.00 for chapter 2 I will...

Let me first say that I totally agree that Anet should be making money on the expansion. They have invested a lot of time and energy in this product and deserve a return on their assets. However, why am I paying for content that I already paid for when I bought the first chapter of GW?

Chapter 2 is a stand alone game that (as we all know because it's been said about 50 millions times) will have the six original professions... etc... etc... (please don't make me repeat all the common aspects again!) Why am I paying for that? Didn't I already pay for that? Why is it unreasonable to think that as a loyal player that I should pay for the content I already have?

If Anet offered a rebate to established consumers (much in the same way that a certain antivirus program does when purchasing the new years updated version) I might reconsider actually buying it. As for now I have no plans for buying the new chapter myself. (You may read my other rants as to why I will not be buying chapter 2 in posts #168, #204 & #300)

This is what I've been thinking. Doesnt make sense to have a different amount of slots depending on if you have Chapter 1 or not.

Now for the REAL question. If i have 2 chapter 1 accounts, am i going to have to buy 2 chapter 2 accounts?(in order to play with chapter 2 stuff with both accounts) I'm guessing yes.

This is a reason I don't play games like WoW. However, I do believe it's different for GW, as I'm not also paying monthly for the use of their servers.

On price and being a complete game:
Your average MMORPG $40 initial and 6*$12 for time since release to date. That is already more than the cost of the game and the second chapter.

Avid players value the game more and therefore will be willing to pay more for less product. If you are reading a book (Tom Clancy or early Robert Jordan) were the story is somewhat interconnected to a past book, you have to live with the initial reintroduction of characters who you are already familar with. You are getting less "new" story than a new reader, however you are coming back for more so you are willing to pay more.

A new Guild Wars player may pick up the game, play 20-70 hours and drop it. If I'm buying the second addition, I am likely to play 200+ more hours (who are we kidding 500+) before the next release. If the expansion hooks new players, then they will buy the original and get zero new slots etc. Finally, the expansion will get fewer buyers (well, likey fewer buyers) since the community is somewhat smaller now than at release. Unless the second chapter really surpasses the hype of the first, that's how I see it. If we want to keep the servers running, we will have to pay a bit more for less.

Finally, the game is incomplete by any stretch of the imagination. Originally engine was done, the balance was ok, but high end PvE content, explorable areas and PvP content was... lacking. The ladder is great if you are top 300 but really slow any lower than that. Tombs has gotten both repetitive and really competitive atm... not great PuG or casual guild experience. Low end PvP is really CA which could use a face lift. GvG is really where the action is, but even those maps could use a bit more variety. Anet tried a few things before intial release to give that variety, but it threw the balance too much. There really are only 4 GvG map types: Catapult maps, Fire map, Movement control maps (Ice,Druid) and location oddity maps--ok that is a bit simplified but you get my drift. PvP is the center of the community, but really doesn't seem involved in the story or much of anything. If Factions resolves some of that gap, I will be very pleased.

You know half the people on this forum would pay $10 for an extra 20 good skills. If they are giving me 300, I'll shell out my $50.
